Vicarious Tourism

Okay, so I haven’t been to England since 1995 (it was such a thrill on that occasion to take my wife and two children to that enchanting isle). BUT I did get to see my daughter and son-in-law (and two of their closest friends) off on a trip just a few days ago, and have been basking in the dribbles of info that have been coming my way via Facebook. So far they’ve posted pics of Chatsworth Hall...

And Warwick Castle....

And Stratford on Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace....

All places I remember well. It’s so exciting (and at the same time, really really hard) to know that they’re “across the pond” having a great time. I so wish I could be there with them. But I would probably (certainly) cramp their style. And, while they won’t be able to see Les Miserables on the London stage as we did so many years ago, they will be seeing Wicked while in London! I’m jealous...but also incredibly happy for them.

  1. Oh, I saw Les Mis on the London stage from the second row, during my 6 month stint working at ICO. It was phenomenal! I haven't been back to England since 1990 (made it there for the International Congress on a real fluke - the delegate from my dad's corps had to back out a few weeks before leaving and I already had a passport).

As I was reading your Facebook status about visiting Machu Pichu (sp?), I wondered if you have read Nicholas Spark's memoir "Three Weeks with My Brother"?
