It may be a little hard to believe, for those who know the lovely Robin, but she got a little testy when she thought I hesitated to take her to Coblentz Chocolates in Walnut Creek, Ohio.
It is a favorite spot of hers, though I'm sure I don't know why. Maybe it's the local butter and fresh cream from nearby farms they use in making their confections by hand in the Walnut Creek shop. Maybe it's the charming Victorian home that houses the store, with comfortable rocking chairs on the porch. Maybe it's the more than sixty thousand pounds of chocolate (of which we buy roughly half, I think) that are produced annually at the family-owned business.
Or maybe it's the creativity they have on display that gives her ideas for her own creative delights. Or the fun treats she can take home to the grandchildren. Or the massive, rich malted milk balls that are better than those from anywhere else.
Fortunately, I managed to get us there before they closed. Robin could have spent hours there, I'm sure, but at least we made it (they close at 5 p.m. in autumn and winter, 6 p.m. in spring and summer).
Coblentz Chocolates is located at 4917 State Route 515 in Walnut Creek, Ohio, next to the Der Dutchman restaurant.
